Other Vehicle Types to Title & Register

A variety of other motor vehicles must be titled and registered with the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles. Some types of vehicles have additional title and registration requirements, as noted in the following table.

Antique vehicle
  • Manufactured before 1984
  • Should be titled and registered in a similar manner as a car
  • Must be inspected and photographed by the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles when being presented for first-time titling and registration

Custom-built vehicle
  • Completely reconstructed or assembled from new or used parts
  • Will be branded as "reconstructed" with a notation of "specially constructed" on the front of the title
  • Year of vehicle will be year of assembly.
  • Should be titled and registered in a similar manner as a car
  • Must be inspected and photographed by the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles when being presented for first-time titling and registration

Replica vehicle
  • A replica manufactured from a kit and sold unassembled
  • Titled as the make and year of model intended to be replicated
  • "Specially constructed" will be noted on the front of the title.
  • Motorcycles are not titled as replicas
  • Should be titled and registered in a similar manner as a car
